In the Mendoza region of Argentina, Proemio (‘Prologue’ in old Medieval Spanish, meaning kick- start or first page) was founded in 2001 by Marcelo Bocardo, third generation winemaker and the descendant of a traditional Italian immigrant family founded Proemio with the goal of producing high quality wines that truly represent his ancestors? passion for viticulture and a legacy for the generations to come.
Marcelo Bocardo could be described as a new wave winemaker of Argentinian wines, avoiding over extraction and heavy use of oak, focusing on expression of the terroir (i.e. Uco Valley, Pedriel-Luj?n de Cuyo and Maip?).
Marcelo began wine making when he was 12, the third generation in viticulture. His grandfather and father owned just a couple of hectares of grapes in Jun?n, Mendoza. At those times Argentine wines were totally different and they used to sell thier grapes to big wineries to make table wines.?I watched in silence since I was little ? that made an impact on my character, on my senses, and in my life. Winemaking is a way of life that has as its premise contact with nature and love for the work.
He now runs a boutique winery with just 4 employees, who all share the same passion that’s put into each drop in every bottle.
